Randall Balmer
John Phillips Professor in Religion
Randall Balmer, an Episcopal priest, teaches Religion in North America at Dartmouth College. He is the author of more than a dozen books, and his commentaries appear in newspapers across the country. In 2024, the American Academy of Religion gave him the Martin E. Marty Award for the Public Understanding of Religion.

Research Interests
My field is Religion in North America, and my research interests range from religion in colonial America to evangelicalism to team sports (and religion) in North America.
I recently published a book about team sports in North America, and I have turned toward research and writing a biography of the late Mark O. Hatfield, Republican senator from Oregon. In addition, I am working on a documentary and companion book about Orthodoxy in Alaska.
